The Shane Tritton-trained Mach Beauty has drawn the middle of the front row for Sunday’s $750,000 Inter Dominion final at Menangle.
The five-year-old gelding will start the 3009 metre journey toward group 1 glory from barrier six with fellow last start winners I’m Victorious (one), Seel N Print (three) and Keayang Cullen (four) inside him.
There will be 10 runners on the front row and four on the second, which includes highly rated C22 and M16 chance Terror To Love (14) from the widest gate at the back.
The Keinbah-based Tritton also had Maitland Inter City Pace finalist Ardghal bumped up from third to second emergency after the scratching of first emergency Franco Nelson.
The emergency runners weren’t allocated barriers and if used they will simply take the place vacated by a scratching.
The barrier draw announcement was made yesterday at Sydney’s Star City Casino followed by the release of Sunday’s 10-race program, which includes seven group 1 events.
Tritton, a four-time Newcastle training premiership winner and 2013 Maitland Sportsperson of the Year nominee, will have seven of his charges in action at the industry’s Sydney headquarters, including four in group 1 races.
Mach Beauty leads the way in pursuit of a second group 1 victory after saluting in last year’s NSW Breeders Challenge for four-year-old geldings.
This will be the Newcastle Horse of the Year’s eighth crack at this level, which included a Miracle Mile final appearance in November and the Chariots Of Fire decider at the 2013 Inter Dominion carnival.
Also running around in group 1 races this weekend will be Yayas Hot Spot in the NSW Derby, Chance in the Ladyship Mile and Ardghal in the Inter Dominion Consolation.
Ardghal (race eight, number one) drew the inside lane for the free-for-all event, while Chance (race four, number eight) and Yayas Hot Spot (race five, number 11) will begin wider.
Gunning for group 2 triumphs will be Liberalitus (race one, number two) in heat 10 of the Drivers Championship as well as stable pair Hawthornden (race 10, number seven) and Shipwreck (race 10, number eight) next to one another in the Carnival Stakes.
Tritton has another three emergencies on the card with Gliding Rose (race four, number six) standing by for the Ladyship Mile, Suave Stuey Lombo (race eight, number five) first up in the Inter Dominion Consolation and Lombo Ranmiles (race 10, number one) in the Carnival Stakes.
First race jumps at 12.30pm with the Inter Dominion final scheduled for 3.40pm.
In other harness racing news, pre-race favourite Strathlachlan Andy took out the Hunter Valley Harness Racing Association Cup at Muswellbrook on Sunday while Sawyers Gully trainer-driver Rodney Pike scored a treble at the same meeting courtesy of Rollon Baby Belle, Luda Can Dance and Im A Player.
BARRIER SIX: Shane Tritton and his Inter Dominion starter Mach Beauty.
