THE Wagga Beach Caravan Park will have five years to find a new home after Wagga City Council resolved to not offer a new lease for the site as part of its Riverside Masterplan.
The operator of the caravan park, Charles Ryals, had approached council in a bid to have it reconsider its decision not to offer a new lease for the park as part of its masterplan.
But councillors were last night resolute that the masterplan must move forward and voted not to consider any extension to the lease.
“Every member of the community willbenefit from this project,” councillor Greg Conkey said.
The caravan park was granted a 20-year lease of the site in 1999 but the deal with council contained no option for either party to automatically extend the deal.
The report tabled to council at last night’s meeting stated that the caravan park’s current location was not “socially sustainable” and catered for few community members while dominating the site.
Mr Ryals did not return the Advertiser’s calls on Monday.
